He was his master's favourte dog. Alert and watchful it kept vigil over the master's factory day and night. One day while crossing the road, he came under a speeding car. His hind legs were badly injured. Veterinary surgeons could not set the injured legs right. So the dog became crippled for life.
The master lost interest in him. The dog could not be trusted for keeping watch. He was unable to pounce on or run after any intruder. However, he had not lost his strong power of smell.
Once, he smelt ginger which grew in abundance near the factory premises. He scraped the earth till he found the ginger. His master saw the lame dog digging earth. Then he saw the ginger the dog had unearthed. The discovery brought a lot of money to his master and dog won the master's affection again.
Moral: Patience yields sweet fruit.
