The Clever Trout


Once upon a time, there lived a fisherman. He was used to idling. He often would tell his wife, "One should never do things in a hurry. That is the way people make mistakes."
Though his wife agreed, yet she felt that her husband usually took a long time to decide. The fisherman liked his work very much. He went for fishing just for fun.
So, one afternoon he set out for fishing. The fisherman thought. "I am hungry and a couple of trouts will be sufficient for me."

The Donkey and The Sitar


A donkey and a dog heard musician playing on the sitar.
"How lovely!" exclaimed the dog, "The sitar player is a genius.”
"Nonsense!" sneered the donkey. "Anybody can pluck the strings and make the sound."
The two animals closed in to have a better look of the sitar player. He was lost in his music with his eyes closed.

The Lame Dog


He was his master's favourte dog. Alert and watchful it kept vigil over the master's factory day and night. One day while crossing the road, he came under a speeding car. His hind legs were badly injured. Veterinary surgeons could not set the injured legs right. So the dog became crippled for life.

A Bird and The Hunter

There was a little bird living in her nest. She was not fully grown-up. As she flew to the branch of a tree, she saw a white caterpillar chewing a leaf.
"It will be nice food for me,” thought the bird on seeing the caterpillar. The moment she was about to catch the insect, the caterpillar smelled some danger. So it curled itself trying to look as tiny as it could. Then it began to persuade the bird not to eat it.

Nasreddin: The World Is Going To End Today


One day, the boys of Nasreddin’s village said to him, ‘You have a nice, fat sheep. Will you invite us to a party to eat it with you?’
Nasreddin did not want the boys to eat his sheep, so he said, ‘It is not fat enough yet.’
‘But have you not heard?’ they said. ‘The world is going to end tomorrow, so the sheep will never get fat!’
Nasreddin was getting tired of this, so he said, ‘All right, boys, we will have a picnic tomorrow, and eat the sheep.’

The Shepherd Boy


Once there was a shepherd boy. One day while watching his sheep, he saw a black smoke rising up from a house. A man came out of the house and shouted, "Fire!" Within a minute many people of neighboring houses came out. They carried buckets full of water to put off the fire. When the fire had been put out, the boy thought, "Everyone paid a lot of attention to the man whose house was on fire. How important he must have felt." Thus, he got an idea. He thought that - as a shepherd - his duty was to look out for wolves.

Fight Over Nothing


Two goats came face to face while crossing a narrow bridge. "Let me pass," requested one of them. "Never, you get out of my way," retorted the other. Unable to reach a compromise they charged at each other. In the ensuing scuffle they lost their balance and fell into the stream down below. The swift currents carried them away to their ultimate death.

Wolf Who Would Be A Shepherd

A Wolf unable to catch his prey for a couple of days became very hungry. Finding no other way to get his meal the wolf thought of a trick. While the Shepherd and his Dog lay fast asleep, he crept towards a flock of sheep. Taking the Shepherd's hat and coat, he put them on. Now the sheep will take him for Shepherd and he could lead them away and eat them up one by one.

Mrs Andrews had a young cat, and it was the cat’s first winter. One evening it was outside when it began to snow heavily. Mrs Andrews looked everywhere and shouted its name, but she did not find it, so she telephone the police and said, ‘I have lost a small black cat. Has anybody found one?’

Nasreddin wanted to buy some new clothes, so he went to a shop. First he asked for some trousers and put them on, but then he took them off and gave them to the shop-keeper and said, ‘No, give me a coat instead of these.’

One day a lady walked into a hat shop. The shopkeeper smiled and said, ‘Good afternoon, madam.’
‘Good afternoon,’ the lady answered. ‘There is a green hat with red flowers and blue leaves on it in your window. Will you please take it out of there.’

The Choicest Dish


A prince had a young, lovely daughter. When there was bright sunshine she alone with her
governess would sit by the side of the pond to learn her lessons. A Duck would swim out of the pond and stand besides the little princess and listen to her lessons. Thus, the Duck too learned to read.
The other ducks in the pond would make fun of her, saying, "Whoever heard of a duck who could read!"
The Duck would reply, "Oh, you can never tell. My learning may be helpful to me some day."
