Curse on the Nation?

As he took pleasure in cursing, so let it come on him; and as he had no delight in blessing, let it be far from him. (Psalm 109:17). A curse may come to the head of a person who takes pleasure in cursing others. If someone likes cursing other people while they don’t deserve it, the curse may go back to him.

To His disciples, Jesus said, “And when you go in, say, May peace be on this house. And if the house is good enough, let your peace come on it: but if not, let your peace come back to you”. (Matthew 10:12-13). If someone is good enough to get your peace (deserves it), your peace will come on him; but if he isn’t, so your peace will come back to you. A curse goes the same way. It will come to the person who deserves it that is the person who likes cursing. He who gives blessing will be made fat, but the curser will himself be cursed. (Proverb 11:25)
Many of us, Indonesian citizens, don’t trust some of our leaders. In many cases, we criticize, blame, and curse them. Why should we do this? I don’t mean that our leaders do not need to be criticized. I don’t mean that all of our leaders are perfect with no mistakes or weaknesses. We may criticize our leaders because criticism can be useful not only for them but also for the next leaders. Besides, When there is no helping suggestion the people will have a fall, but with a number of wise guides they will be safe. (Proverb. 11:14). Criticism or helping suggestions may safe a nation. A curse, however, is much different from criticism.
When there are too many citizens cursing the leaders, than the curse, I’m afraid, will be on the nation. Why don’t we pray for our leaders and bless them instead of cursing them? Pray to God that our leaders may fear the Lord, so they may have enough knowledge to govern. The fear of the Lord is the start of knowledge (Proverb 1:7). Bless the leaders and the nation will be blessed. What do we want for this beloved country and nation? Do we expect blessing or curse for this republic? (By David Solafide)
