The Clever Trout


Once upon a time, there lived a fisherman. He was used to idling. He often would tell his wife, "One should never do things in a hurry. That is the way people make mistakes."
Though his wife agreed, yet she felt that her husband usually took a long time to decide. The fisherman liked his work very much. He went for fishing just for fun.
So, one afternoon he set out for fishing. The fisherman thought. "I am hungry and a couple of trouts will be sufficient for me."

The Donkey and The Sitar


A donkey and a dog heard musician playing on the sitar.
"How lovely!" exclaimed the dog, "The sitar player is a genius.”
"Nonsense!" sneered the donkey. "Anybody can pluck the strings and make the sound."
The two animals closed in to have a better look of the sitar player. He was lost in his music with his eyes closed.

The Lame Dog


He was his master's favourte dog. Alert and watchful it kept vigil over the master's factory day and night. One day while crossing the road, he came under a speeding car. His hind legs were badly injured. Veterinary surgeons could not set the injured legs right. So the dog became crippled for life.

A Bird and The Hunter

There was a little bird living in her nest. She was not fully grown-up. As she flew to the branch of a tree, she saw a white caterpillar chewing a leaf.
"It will be nice food for me,” thought the bird on seeing the caterpillar. The moment she was about to catch the insect, the caterpillar smelled some danger. So it curled itself trying to look as tiny as it could. Then it began to persuade the bird not to eat it.

The Shepherd Boy


Once there was a shepherd boy. One day while watching his sheep, he saw a black smoke rising up from a house. A man came out of the house and shouted, "Fire!" Within a minute many people of neighboring houses came out. They carried buckets full of water to put off the fire. When the fire had been put out, the boy thought, "Everyone paid a lot of attention to the man whose house was on fire. How important he must have felt." Thus, he got an idea. He thought that - as a shepherd - his duty was to look out for wolves.

Fight Over Nothing


Two goats came face to face while crossing a narrow bridge. "Let me pass," requested one of them. "Never, you get out of my way," retorted the other. Unable to reach a compromise they charged at each other. In the ensuing scuffle they lost their balance and fell into the stream down below. The swift currents carried them away to their ultimate death.

Wolf Who Would Be A Shepherd

A Wolf unable to catch his prey for a couple of days became very hungry. Finding no other way to get his meal the wolf thought of a trick. While the Shepherd and his Dog lay fast asleep, he crept towards a flock of sheep. Taking the Shepherd's hat and coat, he put them on. Now the sheep will take him for Shepherd and he could lead them away and eat them up one by one.

The Choicest Dish


A prince had a young, lovely daughter. When there was bright sunshine she alone with her
governess would sit by the side of the pond to learn her lessons. A Duck would swim out of the pond and stand besides the little princess and listen to her lessons. Thus, the Duck too learned to read.
The other ducks in the pond would make fun of her, saying, "Whoever heard of a duck who could read!"
The Duck would reply, "Oh, you can never tell. My learning may be helpful to me some day."

The Monkey and Its Master


The street conjuror had a monkey. He displayed odd tricks on the street and the monkey gave him company and help. He danced, leapt and played funny games. At the end of the street show the monkey would collect the coins thrown by the spectators.

The Thirsty Crow

The thirsty Crow flew all over the land for a little water. Prolonged drought had sucked waters from ponds, lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. The crow could not find even a drop to drink. Then he noticed a pitcher of water in front of a hut. He flew down on it to quench his thirst.

The Wily Hawk

Once a Mongoose found a bevy of doves made their home in a nearby tree. So every night he raided the tree. He killed the luckless birds one by one. The helpless doves became panicky. They had no idea how to save themselves.

The Mongoose and The Snake

The Hunter and his Dog were combing the jungle for rabbits. Suddenly they stopped, struck by a strange sight. A Mongoose and a Snake were engaged in a life and death struggle. The powerful reptile was furiously hissing and trying to bit the Mongoose. While the Mongoose was saving himself from the bite as well as counter-attacking the Snake with his claws.

The Horse and The Donkey

Long ago, there lived a Carter. He had a Horse and a Donkey in his stable. They lived and worked together. The Donkey and the Horse should have been good friends, but it was not so. The Horse was very proud.

The Clever Monkey

Two tom cats stole a king-size cake. But they fell out over the division of the spoils. "It's mine because I discovered It," argued one of the Cats. "But I actually picked it up. So I own the whole of it," answered the other.

The Foolish Monkey


Long ago the lion, king of the forest died leaving no heir to the crown. All the inhabitants of the forest gathered to choose a new king. The animals began arguing among themselves as to whose head the beautiful crown studded with diamonds would fit, instead of who was better suited to be the king.

The Fox And The Crow


In the forest there were several birds. A Crow among them thought himself to be the cleverest. In the same forest there was an Owl who also thought himself to be the cleverest. The clash was going on between the two.
At certain point, a little Sparrow mediated and said, "I have an idea. We will decide on some food that one of you normally eat. Now, who manages to get some in the shortest time will be declared the cleverest bird."

The baby Tortoise always grumbled about her shell. "I have to carry this ugly and heavy house on my back all the time," she moaned. "How I wish, I were free like the hare or the toad to jump, run and skip," she often thought. Mother Tortoise told her the benefits of the shell all tortoise carry. But baby Tortoise dismissed her.
