Verb dengan Infinitive (1)

Beberapa verb dapat langsung diikuti oleh infinitive, beberapa yang lain diikuti noun/pronoun + infinitive

VERB + INFINITIVE
(a) I hope to see you again soon.
(b) He promised to be here by ten.
(c) He promised not to be late.
Beberapa verb langsung diikuti infinitive, seperti pada (a) dan (c). Lihat Kelompok A di bawah.
Bentuk negative: not di depan infinitive

VERB + (PRO)NOUN + INFINITIVE
(d) Mr. Lee told me to be here at ten o’clock.
(e) The police ordered the driver to stop.
Beberapa verb diikuti oleh pronoun/noun kemudian infinitive, seperti pada (d) dan (e). Lihat Kelompok A di bawah.

(f) I was told to be here at ten o’clock.
(g) The driver was ordered to stop.
Verb ini langsung diikuti infinitive manakala digunakan dalam bentuk pasif, seperti pada (f) dan (g)

(h) I expect to pass the test.
(i) I expect Mary to pass the test.
Ask, expect, would like, want, dan need bisa diikuti oleh noun/object pronoun bisa juga tidak.
BANDINGKAN:
Pada (h): I think I will pass the test.
Pada (i): I think Mary will pass the test.

note:
* intend dapat diikuti infinitive maupun gerund, tanpa perubahan makna. I intend to go to the meeting. I intend going to the meeting.
** advise + (no object) + gerund. He advised buying a Fiat.
advise + object + infinitive. He advised me to buy a Fiat. I was advised to buy a Fiat.
