The Unhappy Tortoise

The baby Tortoise always grumbled about her shell. "I have to carry this ugly and heavy house on my back all the time," she moaned. "How I wish, I were free like the hare or the toad to jump, run and skip," she often thought. Mother Tortoise told her the benefits of the shell all tortoise carry. But baby Tortoise dismissed her.

On the side of the pond, the baby tortoise met his friend toad. “You are looking sad. What is the matter?" the tortoise asked. Suddenly a horse rider passed by. The agile Toad leaped into the pond to save himself. The slow Tortoise took the full impact of the horse's hoof on its back. When the horse rider had gone the Tortoise and the Toad met. "Now think, without your shell you would have been trampled to death." said the toad.

Moral: Some remedies are worse than the disease.
